Puneites can expect to have their Unique Identity (UID) numbers soon. the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will be kickstarting the enrolment drive for issuing UID numbers on November 1 in Pune. According to officials, the project will be completed in the district in March 2011. The project will be simultaneously rolled out in the entire state. Enumerators would collect data in a door-to-door drive to facilitate the process. Once the data is collected, the individual would have to go to a booth for providing finger prints and doing iris scan. Pune district, which is divided into three parts—rural, Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas— for the project, will see booths in all villages to reach every citizen.

“The project wil be completed by March 2011. We are taking all the adequate measures to rope in maximum number of agencies to help us set up booths across the state for taking the iris scan and collecting finger prints and photo IDs,” said chief secretary JP Dange.
